I am concerned, this is the first year the clouds are not up in the mountains dropping rain every couple days.    this could have devastating impacts on the water aquifer in the coming years.     I remember something about vegas that it takes 7 years before the water in the mountains makes it down to the town.     Now that is a much greater distance so wonder when we feel the effects?

also city water back to high ppm.

and very humid year again...

we have been having city water problems for the last week. Unconfirmed the pump had problems. but have had a few days without water, so you see the water trucks in action delivering water to many.

The last couple days when there is water the ppm measurement has been at 320ppm. So maybe they are mixing in the los planes water to a high degree. It has been a long time but i thought los planes water was under 100ppm.

http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/border-baja-california/sd-me-san-ysidro-vehcles-20170717-story.html

Carmageddon at the border? A 57-hour closure planned for southbound car lanes at San Ysidro.

Attention border crossers: For 57 hours in September, all cars will be barred from entering Tijuana through San Ysidro.

Lasting from Sept. 23 at 3 a.m. until noon on Sept. 25, the closure is part of a plan by the U.S. General Services Administration to realign a portion of Interstate 5. The operation launches the third and final phase of the $741 million expansion of the San Ysidro Port of Entry.

The closure will affect tens of thousands of drivers--students, commuters, shoppers and others who regularly travel between San Ysidro and Tijuana, passing through the busiest border crossing in the Western Hemisphere.

Authorities are comparing the operation to Carmageddon, when a large swath of the busy Los Angeles I-405 Freeway was shut down for a weekend in 2011 for a highway expansion project.

In this case, the partial closure of I-5 at San Ysidro will cause all vehicle traffic crossing into Mexico during that period to be rerouted to Otay Mesa, where Mexico has only five inspection lanes.

“If you have to cross that weekend, plan on delays,” said Anthony Kleppe, a senior asset manager with the GSA.

At a forum hosted Monday by the San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce and the South County Economic Development Council, Kleppe announced key dates for the massive project, which entails re-building the southernmost stretch of I-5 as it leads into Tijuana’s El Chaparral Port of Entry.

The project is scheduled for completion in June 2019, Kleppe told a crowd of several dozen residents, business owners, and government officials from both sides of the border gathered at the Las Americas outlet mall in San Ysidro.

The aim is to double the number of southbound lanes that feed into El Chaparral from five to ten. It will also involve adding eight more northbound inspection lanes at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, bringing the total to 33. In addition, plans call for southbound vehicle inspection booths to be operated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection inspectors, and a secondary inspection area.

During the construction period, the northbound flow of vehicular traffic will not be affected, Kleppe said. Nor will the pedestrian crossings in both directions.

The 57-hour closure of the southbound vehicle lanes is necessary for the safe removal of a large steel and canvas canopy that currently covers a portion of the southbound car lanes, according to GSA. During that time, workers will also remove concrete crash barriers, and install infrastructure and temporary paving and striping.

“We start with a bang,” Kleppe said.

Following the closure, southbound lanes will be reduced from five to three for a two-month period. After that the plan calls for adding a fourth lane before Thanksgiving, and softening the current sharp 110-degree turn toward El Chaparral to 90 degrees. “It has a better curve, even though there are fewer lanes,” Kleppe said. GSA expects that as a result of the gentler curve, the flow of traffic will not change significantly from what it is today, despite the reduction in lanes.

Monday’s presentation was seen as the launching of an effort to get out the word about the closure and lane reductions. “As the message continues to go out, people are going to be able to plan their trips better,” said Efrain Ibarra, assistant director of the South County Economic Development Council.

“We hope to turn this into a positive,” said Jason Wells, executive director of the San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce, where the fear is that a drop in traffic could mean loss of business.

Plans to hold a festival during the closure and promote pedestrian crossings “can make this an economic boost for us down here,” Wells said.

another pour today as pictured below in Laventana.    This should complete the pouring of the foundation part.  pouring about the same distance/length. Next they will be pouring some cement to fill between the wall and the road.

Plus we now have those white cement road markers about 2 feet tall on the side of the road all over town. Some in a few inconvenient locations that will be run over or removed.

As far as the mountain they are also doing this similar road edge maintenance and preventative maintenance. A lot of it at the top where it is curvy and hilly.

And we now have garbage pick up 2 times a week.

this could be some great news...

http://www.elfinanciero.com.mx/economia/cfe-invertira-mil-mdd-en-cable-para-abastecer-de-energia-electrica-a-bcs.html

CFE to invest $1 billion USD to connect BCS to mainland power grid

The Federal Electricity Commission will invest about one billion dollars for the installation of an underwater cable system that will cross the Sea of Cortez, connecting Baja California Sur to the mainland power grid. The project will be started later this year and be operating by 2021, according to Jaime Hernández Martínez, CEO of the Federal Copmmison of Electricity (CFE). He made the announcement today to the governor of Baja California Sur, Carlos Mendoza Davis, saying that "once the underwater cable system is operating, it will reduce the cost of power generation, improve the entity's competitiveness and the quality of the power transmissions in addition to making the service more reliable."

Along with the underwater power transmission cable, a 32-pair line of optical fiber will be also installed in addition to other projects like photovoltaic plants (solar), allowing additional power produced to be shared on the grid throughout the Mexican Republic. This underwater cable system submarine interconnection was considered "the best option for the entity, in order to guarantee a better quality energy service, more competitive prices and is environmentally friendly", said Hernández Martínez..

"We will comply with all environmental requirements that, far from damaging the environment will be contribute to better ecofriendly development in the state, built around clean energy sources. One of the advantages of this project is that it opens the door to the development of new clean and renewable power generation plants, including both solar and wind power".

Regarding the current power plants, Hernández Martínez said they will become "backup centers" to be used in periods of high demand in extreme temperatures or weather phenomena. That ensures a robust system and with sufficient capacity to meet the demand when needed.

They have been doing some work on the sides of the road around town for 2 weeks now.  Shored up the road across the street from Dos. and working north.

Here in the below picture they are just north of the campground.   At this spot the previous water runnoff had cut into the road about 2 feet.

for today,,, - Page 5 Sam_0510

On the other spots they dug down about 5 feet to make a good concrete footing. I will make a few posts/pictures as they progress.

knocking on wood, but have not had to use AC one day or night so far this season. My notes show last year may 12th was running the AC at night almost every night.

In laPaz they are re-doing the road in front of the coke plant and it is completely closed off so the diversion is you take a left at the first stop sign and cross into the town about 2 miles down that levy road and wind back through that neighborhood to get to that first traffic light near the coke plant. (that traffic light should be a stop sign IMHO).

Recently may 5 did the up there and later back via 5. Stopped at san Felipe for an overnight heading back at a budget place about USD$35.00, don't take your wife there, it did have hot water. Here are the gps co-ordinates. 31.031432, -114.836948

the dirt road seemed better than before. the paved road going north near the turn off from GN to the dirt road was horrible with pot holes, really bad.... But on the way back it was not nearly as bad 10 days later so they do do some road work.

The good news as I mentioned it seems they have made the dirt road better, but the bad news to me that means they do not intend on it being finished for a long time. They could almost pave 10-14 miles of it right now if they just finished a couple little effort parts. But it kind of seems they are going to wait till they have the mountains smashed open. This could be about 5 years is my projection. Again hoping they pave about 14 miles. Boy that would make it real doable to only have 8 miles of crawl for 5 years or so, that is the part that is still the slowest section. Mexicali crossing going north was a headache, Saturday 6pm is when I arrived there, about 2 hours at least it was not hot.

I also crossed at San Luis, AZ coming back. They are very vigilant at this crossing checking cars for duty items, glad I went in the declare lane to the far left. Traffic was heavy, probably took me longer to get to the border here than all my years of crossing, nogales, tecate, Otay, and TJ. Traffic was backed up big time entering mexico, about 20 minutes before you get to customs. So I went in the declare and boy were they tough. I had the receipt on my 3D printer for USD$229.00 and had to get it on my computer because it was mail order. She wanted to charge me for the shipping too and each spool of printing material, but I told them here is my receipt which I got the spools free. She said they did not care, i had to pay duty on like USD$600.00. So I politely asked for her supervisor who had told her to look for the 3D printer material. Pretty sharp guy, his english was spectacular and both of their professionalism was spectacular. But they were going to charge me duty for too much. So he came over and went through my other things. things were already out as she had me unload the car, which takes nothing to reload it. Now he ran into some other things I was bringing down for making mosquito traps and research and asked me to explain. I told him I invented a new mosquito trap and that is also why I was bringing the printer, he asked me what my profession was, I told him engineer. He then asked me for my website for the mosquito traps and he checked and they went and huddled. Again his communications in english were instantaneous no delay in understanding. He did not come back with her but she came back and said I could just pass now. And she wished me luck with the traps. They have the authority to allow me I think $300.00 of duty items for free if they desire. So I was on my way with not having to pay duty, plus because it is a printer they also have another latitude there because it is a 3D printer and computer items for personal are duty free too.

Took the 2 west from that AZ crossing to bypass Mexicali to get on the 5 very good road. Toll cost was low.

At many of the checkpoints heading south. i was alo inspected, i found that having a few dolls in the top part of the trunk for my 11 year old disarms them. As soon as the see them they stop searching and ask if i have a child. Man does that save a lot of time... Note to self once Sophia is over doll age take a few of her dolls with me up north for the return trip.

Here is a new product I saw at the National Hardware Show recently. It is a mini-split AC unit that is portable. So it is very quiet. The only negative is it uses more lectricity than the window units that are energy star. But this one is great for RS, homes, renters, . The annual differential is only 20% higher. Again you do not need expert installation and you can take it with you... My bet is two years and they will be matching 12SEER ratings of window units. But no window unit is close to this in quiet. They are located in Canada so you may have to do some advance planning to get one.

CFE has put a pause on all new solar installs in Baja Sur for the time being. It’s unclear how long this will last but when they do open up another limited amount of solar to be added to their grid that space will fill quickly. ECTECH Solar will be closing our store for the summer due to this but feel free to email us and secure your spot on our waiting list. info atttttt@ectechsolar.com
